Reaper Madness - The CW's Reaper With Bret Harrison

2007 Summer TCA Tour - Day 11

From the Archives:
From Late September 2007. Yes I realize my archive posts are out of order, but since they are all out of order, no big deal, right? So, Reaper. What a great show. A damn shame CW didn't realize what a gem it had here. It got better ratings than Gossip Girl. Sure did. But I guess CW assumes buzz is money and ratings can be ignored. We'll see how far that gets them, I think a combo of both would work and Reaper should have stayed but and could have grown if CW bothered marketing it. I was right about it being a great vehicle for Bret Harrison and there was no better casting than Ray Wise as the Devil, he sure did relish this role. And the actor who played Sock is Tyler Labine. A true find. Look for him in the new FOX series Sons of Tuscon.

This show is definitely a keeper. I've always enjoyed Bret Harrison, this is definitely the vehicle for him. And loving that Sock character. Keep your eye on that actor. Seriously talented. Ray Wise is pitch perfect, by season's end I think he'll be deserving of an Emmy nomination, if anyone from The CW could garner one, it would be him.

Some gems from the opening scene that let me know its worth watching:

It's Sam's 21st birthday.

Dad: "Kyle, did you wish your brother a happy birthday?"
Kyle: "The guy's 21, lives with his parents, and wears an apron for a living. There's no happy in that birthday."

When Sam reveals that a rejection letter arrived from Stanford for his brother Kyle, and his dad asks Kyle how that is possible, we get this exchange:

Kyle: "Sam didn't even go to college."
Mom: "Yes, he did Kyle."
Kyle: "For a month!"
Mom: "And we're very proud of him for trying, it's just that college made him sleepy."
